Skylights Brighten Any Room

Skylights add natural light to rooms directly beneath your home’s roof. In addition, adding skylights provide rooms with the brightness and warmth of daylight while creating a space that feels larger. Skylights also provide energy efficiency, reducing your need for electric lighting. Today’s skylights have been manufactured to prevent harmful UV rays while only exposing you and your family to healthy natural light.

Windows Mean Light and Style

Windows are the most common way to employ natural lighting into your home. Windows of different shapes and sizes will allow different levels of light throughout the day and year. Special attention should also be paid to the location of the windows in order to ensure the greatest allotment of natural light. Consider glass block or frosted glass to maintain privacy in bathrooms rather than covering your best source of natural light with window treatments.

Direction Plays a Role in Window Placement

The location of your home and direction each room faces plays a large role in its natural lighting potential. Areas of the home facing the North will receive low levels of light throughout the day while areas facing the South with receive the largest amounts of natural light. South facing rooms are the best location for windows and skylights. East areas of your home will receive the best lighting as the sun rises and the West as it sets.

Decorating

Your interior color scheme can assist in maximizing your home’s natural lighting. Lighter colors on the walls and surfaces of your home will better reflect natural light while softer and lightweight fabrics on your window dressings will allow more light into the room. Carefully placed mirrors are also a way of reflecting natural light throughout a room.

Sliding Glass Doors

Function meets design with sliding glass doors. Installing sliding glass doors is a perfect opportunity to allow a great deal of natural light into your home without sacrificing a usable doorway. Choosing glass doors removes the apparent barrier between the inside and outside while adding brightness to your room and visibility to the outdoors.
