What is the difference between Universal Design and Aging-in-Place? Universal Design is principle of residential design that promotes the living environment to be usable by all people, regardless of age and abilities. These design concepts and principles are universally beneficial, and don’t necessarily target specific physical or ergonomic points. By comparison, Aging-in-Place is a more specific approach to Universal Design that targets physical and ergonomic demands that are more typical to the older, adult population.
